Last Time Out
West Chester picked up a crucial 3-0 win last weekend over Kutztown to remain in the hunt for a PSAC Tournament appearance. Kutztown battled throughout the match but was unable to catch West Chester as the Golden Rams escaped Keystone Arena with a narrow 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-19). CeCe Isenberg (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) led West Chester in kills with 11, while Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) and Anna Richardson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) logged nine each. Lacie Brown (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove)
Flock Talk
Haines passed Anna Richardson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) as the team leader in kills with 252, while Richardson is second with 246. Brown is first on the team in assists (726) and service aces (31) while also ranking second in digs (209), trailing only Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton), who leads the team with 334. Kwitchoff is first on the team in blocks with 63, while Haines and Nicole Dimiris (Hockessin, Del./Saint Mark’s) are tied for second with 52 each.
It’s Getting Late
With victories against Lock Haven, Bloomsburg, and Kutztown, West Chester kept its PSAC Tournament aspirations alive for another week. The team climbed into fifth place and is one game out from catching Millersville, which is 6-6 in league play. West Chester will need to have a better record than Millersville when play concludes on Saturday evening, as the Marauders hold a tiebreak over the Golden Rams after sweeping the season series.
Series History
Shepherd holds a 14-4 lead in the all-time series over the Golden Rams, including wins for the Rams in each of the last 14 meetings after West Chester started the series with wins in the first four matches.
Against Shippensburg, West Chester also trails by a 59-27 margin after falling to the Raiders on the road earlier this season. West Chester remains in search of its first win over Shippensburg since a 3-1 victory in Hollinger in 2021.
Scouting Shepherd
Shepherd (21-4, 12-0) enters play on Friday afternoon looking to run its winning streak to 13 in a row after the Rams started their streak with a 3-2 victory over Shippensburg on Friday, September 27. Unbeaten in league action, Shepherd suffered all four losses during a weekend Tournament at IUP in late September but has looked strong since, winning three of its first four matches in November by 3-0 margins. Over the last seven matches, Shepherd has posted a combined margin of victory of 21-5. It does bear noting that Shepherd has not been forced to play away from home since mid-October (10/18-19), when the team posted a 3-0 sweep of Lock Haven before grinding out a 3-2 win over Bloomsburg on October 19.
On Saturday afternoon, Shepherd finished its season series against Bloomsburg, rolling to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-15) victory over the Huskies behind 14 kills from Joi Fairweather and seven from Amya Davis. Macy Buso led the squad in assists with 33, while Halie Zeitz posted 13 digs along with a match-high two aces in the victory.
Fairweather leads the team in kills (232) and is second in blocks (110), while Rylee Lenz is a close second with 223 kills. Buso is first on the team in assists (851). Harli Zeitz leads the team in digs, with 328 entering the last stretch of the regular season. Madigan Faircloth is first on the team in aces with 33, while Zeitz is second in aces with 29.
Scouting Shippensburg
After dropping its final two matches of October, Shippensburg has found its footing once again, winning each of its first four matches of the new month, including a dominant 3-0 victory over East Stroudsburg on November 2 and another 3-0 triumph over Lock Haven last Saturday afternoon.
Last Saturday was Senior Day in Heiges Field House for the Raiders, and they made sure to send their seniors off with a convincing win, cruising to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-13) win over the bald Eagles to improve to 16-11 overall and 10-2 in league play. Emily Gardner led Shippensburg in kills in the victory, finishing with 14, while Isabelle Bombas tied with Maddie Clabaugh for the team lead in blocks with five each.
