GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – Second-seeded Davenport opened up a big lead in the first half against third-seeded West Chester en route to 70-7 victory in the semifinals of the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) postseason tournament Saturday morning on the DU Turf Field.
Davenport (3-2-1) advances to take on the winner of the other NIRA Semifinal between American International College and Frostburg State, which will take place on Sunday in Springfield, Mass.
Christelle Adikpeto (Abomey-Calavi, Benin Moon Area) registered the lone try of the match for the Golden Rams three minutes into the second half. It was converted by
Emma Davies (Kennett Square, Pa. Kennett). That score made it a 36-7 contest. But, that was as close as the Golden Rams got.
West Chester's fall 15's season comes to a close with the loss. The team will now prepare for the spring 7's portion of its schedule which will get under way next March.
