Women's Rugby Rolls to Senior Day Triumph over Mount St. Mary's, 31-22

Box Score
WEST CHESTER, Pa.-
The West Chester University women's rugby team (5-3) ended its regular season with a victory on Saturday morning, rolling to a 31-22 victory over Mount St. Mary's (0-7).

Prior to the match, West Chester honored its senior class in a special pregame ceremony as the Golden Rams sent off their 10-player senior class, which included Ellie O'Mara, Josephine Jones, Mikayla Kizel, Amelia DiCicco, Lilly Rhode, Kristen Swaveley, Elly Gorham, Brooke Crago, Ty Hickey, and Sara McNicholas.

West Chester got out to an early 12-0 lead in the first 20 minutes after an opening try by Christelle Adikpeto (Abomey Calavi, Benin/Moon Area) gave West Chester a 5-0 lead 10 minutes into the match before an Ashlyn Wissler (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) try in the 18th minute stretched the lead to 10-0. Emma Davies (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) had an excellent day, beginning with her successful conversion following Wissler's score to make it a 12-0 WCU lead.

Mount St. Mary's cut into the deficit in the 21st minute with a Cali Dietz try, but Crago restored order quickly, scoring in the 24th minute. After another Davies conversion, the Golden Rams had a 19-15 lead entering the final 10 minutes of the first half.

Davies scored her first try of the match and hit the conversion with just over two minutes to play until halftime, extending the Golden Ram advantage to 26-5 at the midway point.

Clare Hurley (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) opened the second-half scoring in the 43rd minute with a try of her own, which extended the lead to 31-5 in the early going.

This try proved crucial for West Chester as the visiting Mountaineers mounted a strong comeback down the stretch of the match, scoring 17 points unanswered, which cut the deficit to 31-22 with under four minutes to play.

This second-half charge proved to be too little too late for the Golden Rams as the team celebrated Senior Day with a 31-22 victory and went into the NIRA Tournament with momentum on its side once again.
