Women's Basketball Ranked Seventh in Final Atlantic Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS-The Division II women's basketball committee released its final regional rankings of the year on Wednesday afternoon, and West Chester held steady at seventh in the Atlantic Region heading into selection Sunday.

Winners of 15 in a row, West Chester is currently preparing to host a PSAC Quarterfinal vs Kutztown tonight at 5:30 p.m. in search of a win, which would likely solidify its NCAA Tournament resume.

Gannon retained the top spot in the poll, followed by CIAA champion, Fayetteville State, with Fairmont State from the Mountain East Conference just behind in third. Lock Haven was tabbed fourth, followed by Indiana (Pa.) and California (Pa.) in fifth and sixth, with WCU and Virginia State rounding out the top eight.

West Virginia State is currently the first team out, appearing ninth in the rankings, followed by Edinboro in 10th. Gannon, Lock Haven, IUP, Cal and Edinboro are all in action in PSAC Quarterfinal matchups tonight, including a head-to-head matchup between Gannon and Edinboro in a PSAC West Quarterfinal.

The Mountain East Tournament is also just getting under way this evening with Fairmont State and West Virginia State opening their tournament campaigns on Thursday. The PSAC and MEC champions will also secure automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament (along with CIAA champion Fayetteville State), leaving five spots available for at-large bids on Sunday night.

Today's rankings are the third and final rankings of the regular season ahead of the selection show, which will air on NCAA.com on Sunday night at 10:30 p.m.
