KICKING OFF
After capturing the Tier II National Championship in 2019, West Chester has appeared in at least the semifinal round of the NIRA Tournament every year since, including a return trip to the National Championship match in 2021, where the team fell to AIC in its last National Championship game appearance.
FLOCK TALK
While West Chester did graduate some critical pieces, including multiple-time All-NIRA honoree
Faith Morley, the Golden Rams do return all three of their leading scorers from the 2023 15s season in
Emma Davies (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett), Ty Hickey (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), and Brooke Crago (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area). Davies turned in an outstanding rookie season last fall and, in doing so, earned NIRA All-NIRA honors after leading the team in scoring with two trys, six penalty kicks, and eight conversions for a team-high 44 points in seven matches. Hickey was also excellent a year ago, logging 27 points on three trys and six conversions, while Crago chipped in 20 points via four trys in five matches.
In 7s action last spring, Hickey was a leader for the Golden Rams once again, scoring a team-high 72 points with 12 trys and six conversions, while
Camryn Snow (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) was close behind with eight trys for 40 points in 17 matches. Crago also turned in an excellent performance in 7s action, finishing the spring season with five trys and two conversions for 29 points, while also earning National Collegiate Rugby 7s Championships All-Tournament team honors in recognition of outstanding efforts during the Championships in Washington, D.C. last April.
In addition to its outstanding group of returners, headlined by Crago, Davies, Hickey, and Snow, West Chester welcomes a host of talented newcomers, including
Christelle Adikpeto, Clare Hurley, Josephine Jones, Adeline LaCarrubba, Cecilee MacCheyne, Sarah Opalach, Christina Palmer, Fanta Sissoko, Robyn Witikko, and Maliha Yunker.
