Women's Rugby Celebrates Senior Day vs Emory & Henry

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women's rugby team (3-2) returned home on Saturday morning for Senior Day against Emory & Henry (2-2). The match was officially ruled as a 5-0 forfeit victory for the Golden Rams due to a player shortage for the visiting Wasps.

The day started off with Senior Day ceremonies as the Golden Rams honored their 13 seniors playing their final 15s home game. The group included Carleigh Welsh (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township), Sarah Kopec (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Cheyanne Anderson (Yardley, Pa./Neshaminy), Taylor Baldwin (Joppa, Md./Perry Hall Christian), Bridget Kowalski (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Candyce Fougere (Pocono Valley, Pa./Pleasant Valley), Natalie Visco (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor), Sara Opalach (Middletown, Del./Odyssey Charter), Alyssa Miller (Philadelphia, Pa./Girard Academic Music Program), Sofia Lasonio (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Lillianna Spears (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove), Jade McCool (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland), and Mia Moore (Havertown, Pa./Haverford). This senior class has helped continue the proud tradition that is Golden Rams women's rugby, helping the team advance to the NIRA Division II Tournament each season with semifinal appearances in each campaign. The group of Golden Rams that has played in the sevens season in the spring has also helped the team advance to the Collegiate Rugby 7s Championships each season in their career so far.
 


While the match was officially ruled a forfeit victory for West Chester due to a short roster for Emory & Henry. With the day already being designated as Senior Day, the two sides played an exhibition match following Senior Day ceremonies, giving the Golden Rams senior class another opportunity to compete in 15s action in front of their home crowd.
