Women's Volleyball to Host Shippensburg and Shepherd This Weekend

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women's volleyball team (14-3, 4-1) is preparing for another important weekend of conference action in Hollinger Field House as the Golden Rams welcome rivals Shippensburg (13-6, 5-0) and Shepherd (13-5, 3-2) to Hollinger on Friday and Saturday. West Chester will host Shippensburg on Friday at 6 p.m. before welcoming Shepherd for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday.

West Chester improved to 4-1 in league play over the weekend with a dominant 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-20) win over Bloomsburg on Friday night and a thrilling 3-2 (20-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-16, 15-11) win over Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon. Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) led West Chester in kills and digs on Friday night with 13 and 12, while Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) led the charge on Saturday afternoon with 15 kills after chipping in 10 in the win on Friday night.

Haines leads West Chester in kills with 176, while Lane is close behind with 172, followed by block leader (51.0) Julia Kwitchoff (Niagara Falls, N.Y/Niagara Wheatfield), who has 112 kills to her name this season. Haines is also second on the team in blocks with 37, while CeCe Isenberg (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) is third with 35. Lacie Brown (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove) leads West Chester in assists with 548, while also holding the team lead in aces with 25. Bria Stepp (Cranberry Twp, Pa./Seneca Valley) and Megan Wolfe (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) are close behind with 23 aces each, while Lane has 21 of her own. Elianna Freeman (Jersey Village, TX/Jersey Village) leads West Chester in digs with 159, while Lane and Brown are second and third with 141 and 138.

West Chester will play its annual Dig Pink matches this weekend in support of the ongoing fight against Breast Cancer.

Let's Roll

Winners of three in a row, West Chester is 14-3 overall and 4-1 in league play to open the 2025 season. West Chester went 10-2 through September and is 4-1 to open October, with its lone loss coming at East Stroudsburg on October 4 by a 3-0 final.

Home Sweet Home

West Chester is 9-0 in Hollinger Field House this year and has won seven of those nine matches in straight sets. The lone exceptions have been a 3-1 win over Felician, which saw West Chester drop the third set, and a 3-2 win over Lock Haven on Saturday, which saw West Chester lose the first and third sets.

Saturday's match is West Chester's last home match until November 5 against Pace, which will be the start of a three-game homestand to wrap up the Golden Rams' regular-season home slate.

Series History

Shepherd holds a 15-4 lead in the all-time series over the Golden Rams, including wins in each of the last 15 meetings after West Chester started the series with victories in the first four matches.

Against Shippensburg, West Chester trails by a 59-28 margin after falling to the Raiders in both matches a season ago. West Chester remains in search of its first win over Shippensburg since a 3-1 win in Hollinger in 2021.

Scouting Shippensburg

Shippensburg entered league play at 7-6 overall but has caught fire since East play began on September 30 at Shepherd, winning each of its last six, including its first five league matches after posting a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-20) win over East Stroudsburg and a 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 25-10, 27-29, 17-15) win over Kutztown on Saturday afternoon.

Gracen Nutt leads Shippensburg in kills with 189, while Hailey Cappleman is second with 177. Kearstin Davis leads the team in assists with 580, while Berkley Simmons leads the Raiders in aces with 31. Shay Kolivoski is first on the team in digs with 400, while Davis is second with 209. Isabelle Bombas is first on the team in blocks with 66, while Cappleman is second with 45.

Scouting Shepherd

Shepherd heads into the weekend at 13-5 overall and 3-2 in league action after splitting its series last weekend with Kutztown (W, 3-1 – 22-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-22) and East Stroudsburg (L, 3-2 – 26-24, 17-25, 25-23, 21-25, 11-15). The Rams are just 1-2 in West Virginia so far this year, but are 6-2 in road matches and 6-1 in neutral site matches, doing some of their best work away from the Butcher Center.

Ada McCoy is first on the team in kills with 214, while Sophia Ryan is second with 162, and also leads the Rams in blocks with 75. Macy Buso is first in assists with 626 and is second on the team in digs with 125, trailing Madigan Faircloth, who leads the team in digs with 271. Amya Davis is first on the team in aces with 30, while Faircloth and McCoy are second and third with 25 and 24, respectively.

West Chester will head to Millersville on Wednesday, October 22, at 6 p.m. before heading to Wilmington on October 23 at 7 p.m. West Chester will have a bye next weekend before jumping back into league play on October 31 and November 1 with a road trip to Shippensburg and Shepherd.
