INDIANAPOLIS, IND – West Chester University was one of seven schools listed in the first NCAA Division II Atlantic Region ranking that was released Wednesday afternoon.
The first ranking, which is purely alphabetical, identifies those teams in the Atlantic Region which are currently being considered for selection for the NCAA Tournament at the end of the year. There will be another ranking to follow next Wednesday (Oct. 29) in rank order with the final regional rankings published online (in rank order) on Wednesday Nov. 4.
The NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship provides for an eight-team, single-elimination tournament. The national committee will select five teams from the Atlantic region – two automatic qualifiers, one each from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and South Atlantic Conference (SAC) – plus three at-large teams. Three teams from the East region – one automatic qualifier from the Northeast-10 Conference plus two at-large teams – will make up the rest of the field.
The committee will seed and pair teams for the tournament according to the geographic travel policy established by the NCAA Division II Championships Committee.
First-round games will be Saturday, Nov. 15, semifinals will be Friday, Nov. 21, and the NCAA Division II Field Hockey National Championship Game will be Sunday, Nov. 23.
