WEST ORANGE, N.J.-Playing in its first Tournament since winning the PSAC Championship earlier this month, the West Chester University men's golf team shot an opening round 295 to take an early lead at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate at Montclair Golf Club in Northern New Jersey on Monday afternoon.
West Chester is one of just two Division II programs in the field, which is primarily Division I competition, and the Golden Rams hold a four-stroke lead over New Haven (299), while holding a seven-stroke advantage over Mercyhurst and Saint Peter's in a tie for third with opening round scores of 302.
Nathan Radwanski (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) is playing as an individual for West Chester this week and holds a first-round lead after carding six birdies in his opening round. Radwanski birdied the par-four first, second, ninth, and 14
th, and 17
th as well as the par-five 10
th to lead the field in birdies in the first round.
Patrick Carl (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) led West Chester in the opening round with an even-par 70 as he carded a field-best 14 pars on Monday along with a pair of birdies on the par-four 15
th, and par-three 16
th.
Evan Jozwiak (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) played the par-five 10
th as well as anyone in the field on Monday as he opened his round with an eagle on the 10
th before adding another birdie on the par-four second, which helped him sit in the top-10 after an opening round of 74 (+4) in ninth.
As a team, West Chester is second in the field in pars with 55 and leads the field in both par-four and par-five scoring averages at 4.22 (+13) and 4.90 (-1), respectively. West Chester is also tied for second in the field in scoring average on the par-threes of Montclair Golf Club at 3.50 (+10).
