POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.- The West Chester University women's rugby team (1-3) returned to action on Saturday afternoon in New York to take on Bowdoin (4-0) in neutral-site action at Vassar College. West Chester lost to Bowdoin by a 37-27 final despite a valiant second half comeback effort.
West Chester fell behind 32-5 just over 25 minutes into the match before mounting a furious comeback bid.
Bridget Kowalski (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Olivia Amann (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West), and Emma Davies (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) all scored trys for West Chester. Davies
also tallied a penalty kick and a pair of conversions.
Evie Staehle (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) picked up her first career try late in the second half, which brought West Chester to within eight points late before the Polar Bears scored a final try with seven minutes to play to seal the victory.
West Chester will be back home next Saturday for its regular season home finale and senior day vs Emory & Henry, beginning at 11 a.m.
