Women's Rugby Takes Second at Navy Legacy 7's Tournament

ANNAPOLIS, Md.- The West Chester University women's rugby squad returned to action on Sunday afternoon at the Legacy 7's Tournament hosted by the United States Naval Academy.

West Chester's Purple squad placed second at the Tournament, finishing its day at 3-1 with wins over Mount St. Mary's and Princeton in the preliminary rounds before posting a 24-19 victory over Long Island University (LIU) in the semifinals to advance to its first Tournament final of the 2025 season.

West Chester found itself trailing 17-0 at the half but mounted a second-half comeback with consecutive trys by Brooke Crago (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) and Ty Hickey (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), which along with a Lily Rhode conversion brought West Chester back to within five points with two minutes to go.

The Golden Rams defensive pressure forced a Queens turnover in Royal's territory and West Chester got down to the goal line before a final stand forced a turnover and gave Queens the five-point win.

Camryn Snow (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) and Bridget Kowalski (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) both tallied two trys for 10 points each on the day and Lilly Rhode (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) converted seven trys and added a try of her own for 19 points.  Hickey totaled 17 points for the day.

West Chester Gold went 1-3 today, winning vs Mount St. Mary's B while dropping two matches to Navy B and one to Princeton.
Addy LaCarrubba (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) ran in three trys for 15 points, while Kristen Swavely (Reading, Pa./Exeter) ran a long try down the sideline to add 5 points for the day.

West Chester returns to the pitch next Sunday at home for the WCU 7's tournament.
