West Chester University Seeks Full-Time Assistant Track and Field Coach

25-155 Assistant Track & Field Coach (Full-Time) – Department of Athletics

Position Summary

The Department of Athletics invites applicants for the position of Assistant Track & Field Coach. This is a full-time, salaried, 12-month position with full benefits.

Reports to the head coach and is responsible for specific coaching area as assigned by the head coach. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills to be a positive role model and representative of the university. This position requires the ability to travel extensively on both weekdays and weekends and may be expected to drive university vehicles to practices and competitions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the head track and field/cross country coach in fulfilling all responsibilities associated with successful coaching at the college level
  • Develop, recommend, and implement training programs to develop student-athlete skills in association with the head coach and strength & conditioning staff
  • Ensure appropriate safety precautions are taken
  • Assist with student-athlete recruitment as assigned by head coach
  • Instruct student athletes in the fundamentals of the sport
  • Attend all practices and home & away sporting events
  • Recommend discipline of student athletes for infractions of rules/regulations and misconduct
  • Follow and demonstrate support for all policies and regulations of West Chester University, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association
  • Assist the head coach in monitoring the academic requirements of student athletes to ensure satisfactory progress in the pursuit of a baccalaureate degree and a high graduation rate
  • Assist in the organizing and directing of summer camps and other fundraising activities that produce income for scholarship and team related activities
  • Organizing and managing home cross country and track & field meets
  • Perform other related duties

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Previous collegiate playing or coaching experience 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous coaching experience in a variety of event areas; and/or
  • Recruiting experience; and/or
  • Fundraising and summer camp experience, including marketing and advertising; and/or
  • Experience managing home cross country and track and field meets

Special Instructions

This is a full-time, salaried, 12-month position with full benefits. The salary for this position is commensurate with experience with additional income possible by conducting mandatory summer camps.
