No. 5 West Chester Travels to No. 6 Bloomsburg Wednesday Afternoon

BLOOMSBURG, PA – In yet another Top 10 matchup within the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) fifth-ranked West Chester travels to sixth-ranked Bloomsburg for what is building up to be a very critical showdown in the league standings. Both teams enter the contest Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Steph Pettit Stadium with a 1-0 record in league play. West Chester shows a 7-1 overall mark while Bloomsburg is 8-1 overall.  
 
  1. West Chester and Bloomsburg have carved out quite a history in the sport of field hockey. Between them, the two programs have won 19 national championships. A total of 12 national titles reside in Bloomsburg, Pa., but none since 2009. Nine of those championships were at the Division II level with the other three coming at the Division III level. For West Chester, seven national titles have a home in Southeastern PA. Four of those championships are AIAW crowns from the mid 1970s. The Golden Rams have won three NCAA Division II titles since re-classifying in 2011 – winning titles in 2011, 2012 and 2019.
  2. Head-to-head, West Chester shows an 18-6 advantage in the all-time series. However, Bloomsburg has been victorious each of the last two times the schools have met at Steph Pettit Stadium. The Golden Rams are searching for their first road win over the Huskies since 2022.
  3. Bloomsburg head coach Nikki Hartranft (17th year) and West Chester mentor Amy Cohen (16th year) are the second and third-longest tenured coaches in the PSAC currently leading their programs behind only Millersville's Shelly Behrens (18th year). Together, Hartranft and Cohen have racked up a combined 415 wins at their respective institutions.
  4. Back, Anna Finn (Windsor, N.Y./Windsor), ranks sixth in all of Division II with a team-best nine goals on the year. Finn is one of only two defensive players to rank among the Top 10 in scoring in Division II.
  5. West Chester goalkeeper Erin O'Brien (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) ranks seventh in Division II with a .869 goals-against average. She is second in the nation among freshman keepers, behind Shippensburg's Liv Schweighart (.594).

West Chester hits the road again on Saturday for another PSAC titanic-clash at East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m. inside Whitenight Field. It will be the second time this year that the two schools have met. West Chester claimed a 2-1 win on Sept. 22 in West Chester. Saturday's showdown will count in the league standings.
