INDIANA, Pa.- The West Chester University men's golf team fired an opening-round 296 to sit in a tie for second on the team leaderboard after the opening round of the Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational at Indiana Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Yamato Kimura (Kuwana Mie, Japan/Monteverde Academy) is fifth on the individual leaderboard after the opening round as he shot a one-over-par 72 on Tuesday, including a two-under 34 on the front nine at Indiana Country Club with birdies on the par-four second, par-three seventh, and par-four ninth to lead the Golden Rams in the opening round.
Indiana (Pa.), who is serving as the host for the Tournament this week holds a three-stroke (293) lead on the team leaderboard over West Chester and Pitt-Johnstown, while Eli Ropietski of Pitt-Johnstown is first on the individual leaderboard with a one-under 70 in his opening round.
In the first round, West Chester led the field in birdies with 14 and played the par-4s of Indiana Country Club as well as any team in the field with a 4.16 scoring average on those holes, which led the field. Kimura was a big part of this as he tied with Ropietski for par-four scoring average at 3.78 (-2), while also ranking third in the field in birdies with four in his opening round.
