Costa Named NCBWA Division II National Pitcher of the Week

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Following his 12 strikeout effort against Kutztown last week, which earned him PSAC East and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week honors, redshirt-senior Julian Costa (Mantua, N.J./Clearview) added a final weekly honor to the list on Thursday as he was named NCBWA Division II National Pitcher of the Week.

Costa earned his second PSAC East and Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week honors of the season earlier this week but this marks the first time this season that he has been recognized as the Division II National Pitcher of the Week. Costa received this honor once last season following his first career no-hitter in late February against St. Thomas Aquinas in Cary, North Carolina.

The veteran lefty was sensational on Friday against Kutztown to open the series with the Golden Bears, striking out a career-high 12 and allowing just four hits on 85 pitches in a masterful complete-game (seven-inning) shutout over the Golden Bears. In addition to being a new career-high, Costa's 12 strikeouts are also the most by any pitcher on staff this season and the most by a Golden Ram pitcher in a single game since Kyle Lazer (Havertown, Pa./Msgr. Bonner & Prendie) fanned 14 on the road against Mercy in March 2025. Costa also earned his sixth win of the season and, in doing so, moved into solo second place on the career win chart with 28 as he continues his pursuit of Jeff Brennan's career win record of 30 after breaking the career strikeout record earlier this spring.

Costa and West Chester will be back in action on Friday afternoon in a doubleheader at home against Shippensburg, beginning at 1 p.m.
