Women’s Lacrosse Earns At-Large Bid to NCAA Tournament

NCAA D2 WLAX Bracket

INDIANAPOLIS, IND.
- West Chester University earned the third seed in the Atlantic Region of the upcoming NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Tournament and will travel to East Stroudsburg later this week. The Golden Rams' opponent on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the first round will be Mountain East Conference (MEC) Champion Frostburg State.

The tournament expanded to 24 teams (six in each region) one year ago, meaning each region is split up into two separate pods of three teams. The Golden Rams are in a pod with No. 2 East Stroudsburg (18-1) serving as host and earning the first-round bye awaiting the winner of West Chester vs. Frostburg State. The other pod in the Atlantic Region will be hosted by No. 1 seed Slippery Rock who will await the first-round winner between No. 4 Kutztown (14-6) and No. 5 Wingate. The winners of the two pods will meet in the regional final on Saturday, May 16 at the home of the highest remaining seed.

Frostburg State (15-3), Wingate (16-3) and Slippery Rock (20-0) earned automatic bids to the tournament as their conference champions. FSU defeated Dominican (Calif.), 10-8, in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) final while Wingate downed Lenoir-Rhyne, 11-9, in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) final. Slippery Rock topped Kutztown, 11-10, in the PSAC final on Sunday

West Chester is 2-4 against the rest of the Atlantic Region field in the NCAA Tournament.

West Chester is making its 19th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and holds a 23-16 record overall. The Golden Rams have been to 11 NCAA Division II National Championship Games and have won two national titles (2002, 2008). West Chester lost to Slippery Rock in last year's Atlantic Region final. The Golden Rams have played for the region crown in each of the last six seasons dating back to 2019.
