WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester goal keeper Lyndsie Bernardini has been named to the 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer All-America First Team, it was announced this week. Fellow Golden Rams Jenna Arnold and Cindi Nickles were named to the All-America second and third-teams, respectively.
Bernardini finished the season with a .923 save percentage and 0.23 goals against average. She started all 22 games for the Golden Rams, allowing only five goals against on the year. Bernardini ran her record to 19-2-1, including 15 shutouts. Bernardini’s also set a West Chester record with 1,238 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal, a mark that ranks second all-time in NCAA history.
Defenders Jenna Arnold and Cindi Nickles were indespensible parts of a rock-solid defense that allowed only five goals in 22 games all season, including a streak of over 19 games without allowing a goal. Nickles started all 22 games for the Golden Rams, while Arnold started 21. Nickles recorded one assist on the season. Arnold tallied one goal and one assist.
Junior forward Shakira Duncan of West Florida University was named the National Player of the Year behind her 32 goals and 12 assists.
Sports information directors from NCAA D-II schools and conferences selected the three Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot. This is the fourth year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA D-II Women’s Soccer All-America and all-region teams. A total of 39 student-athletes representing 23 different institutions filled out the three teams.
