BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Bryce Shaffer’s second goal of the game with three minutes left lifted host Bloomsburg to a 3-2 victory over visiting West Chester in a PSAC men’s soccer tilt on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (2-5, 0-4 PSAC) dropped its fifth straight and is still in search of its first conference victory while Bloomsburg (3-3-1, 2-1-1) draws within two points of first-place Slippery Rock with the win.
Shaffer put a pass from Francis Miller into the left corner with three minutes left to break a 2-2 tie and give the Huskies the win. Both of Shaffer’s goals were assisted by Miller.
Golden Rams freshman striker Conor Malarney had tied the game in the 77th minute with his team-leading fourth goal of the year. His header beat Bloomsburg goalkeeper Ramon Lobo.
Brett Snyder scored his first career goal 11 minutes into the contest to give West Chester a 1-0 lead early. That tally ended a scoring drought of 382 minutes on the year for the Rams, who have now lost four one-goal games in 2010.
Bloomsburg’s Tom Natter evened the score in the 37th minute and then Shaffer’s first of the day came two minutes later to give the Huskies a 2-1 advantage at the break.
Peter Weiss went the distance in goal for West Chester, making five saves. Ramon Lobo picked up the win for Bloomsburg with five saves of his own.
West Chester steps out of conference on Wednesday to host N.Y. Tech at South Campus Field at 4 p.m.
