WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Brianna Hires continued to wear the magical boot as host West Chester University shut out visiting Mansfield, 3-0, in a PSAC women’s soccer contest at South Campus Complex Saturday afternoon.
Hires scored the game’s first goal shortly after halftime, marking her third goal in the last three games for West Chester (6-2-3, 3-2-3 PSAC), who needed the league win to get back on track in the conference standings. Mansfield (1-7, 0-6) dropped its seventh straight match.
Melissa McKeary registered a pair of assists, fueling West Chester’s three-goal spurt in the second half. McKeary assisted on D’Angelo’s fourth goal of the year almost exactly two minutes after Hires opened the scoring. She hit teammate Jen Hutchinson with a cross in the 64th minute that the junior midfielder banged home for insurance.
Shannon Fedyk (6-2-3) was credited with one save on Mansfield’s only shot of the match in 66 minutes of action. Lauren Panfile relieved Fedyk and went the rest of the way without having to make a save.
West Chester battered Mansfield’s two goalkeepers with 32 shots and held a commanding 11-2 advantage on corner kick opportunities. The Mountaineers’ Alexis Wilhelm registered 10 saves in 67 minutes of action while Alana Krieger made one save the rest of the way.
West Chester travels to Holy Family on Tuesday for a non-league tilt with the Tigers at 4 p.m.
