PLYMOUTH-MEETING, Pa.
- Four different players scored as fourth-ranked West Chester University downed host Chestnut Hill, 4-0, in the season opener for the women's soccer squad at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Thursday night.

Sophomore Kim Shoup scored a goal and assisted on another while freshman goalkeeper Shannon Fedyk recorded a pair of saves to pick up a shutout in her first college start. Melissa McKeary, Dana Hunt and Cara Deola each scored as well as West Chester blew open a scoreless tie at halftime with four unanswered tallies in the second half.

"I think they were just nervous," fifth-year head coach Betty Ann Kempf Townsley said. "My assistant (Chris Przemieniecki) pointed out that we had nine new players on the field at one point in the first half. Still, we should have put a few in the goal. But, (Chestnut Hill's) keeper came up with some really big saves.

"I told them to relax at the half, and I think they started to feel a lot more comfortable in the second half."

Rachel Miller registered an assist on McKeary's goal while Shoup assisted on Hunt's first career goal with a nice cross from the right side. McKeary scored just 44 seconds after Shoup had given the visitor's a 1-0 lead three minutes into the second half.

Chestnut Hill's Jessica Veazey recorded 11 saves in the loss. West Chester outshot Chestnut Hill by a wide 28-7 margin while holding a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Golden Rams open their home slate on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. against No. 14 Tampa at South Campus Complex. The Spartans were upset by Philadelphia University on Thursday afternoon, 1-0.
