Jackson’s Goal Enough For Women’s Soccer To End Skid

Box Score
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – An unlikely source led to a sorely needed victory as sophomore defender Rachel Jackson’s first career goal helped propel West Chester to a 1-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory over host Lock Haven Wednesday night.

The Golden Rams (2-3-0, 2-3-0 PSAC), who had given up eight goals during the losing streak, kept a clean sheet for the second time this year in picking up their second win of the campaign. Lock Haven (1-3-1, 1-3-1) received stellar goalkeeping from Dana Wozniak, but were not able to find the equalizer.

Lexi Lentz’s corner kick reached the near post and Jackson, who has started every game on defense this season, was left unmarked and headed in the game winner at 5:02 of the first half.

Cara Deola had a chance in the opening minute, but Wozniak dove to keep the ball from entering the far corner deflecting it out of bounds for the Golden Rams first of six corners.

West Chester forwards and midfield controlled much of the match, and despite having several opportunities to add an insurance goal, the Golden Rams had to sweat out the 1-0 victory.

Madi Mitchell (1-1) picked up her first career win and shutout in goal for West Chester making two saves. Wozniak kept the game close stopping five shots for Lock Haven.

West Chester is back at home for a Saturday afternoon match with Bloomsburg at 2:30 at South Campus Field.
