West Chester Punches Ticket to the NCAA Quarterfinals With Shutout

West Chester, Pa. – West Chester grabbed its sixth NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Atlantic Region title, shutting out fifth-seeded West Virginia Wesleyan, 1-0, on a stone cold Friday afternoon at Rockwell Field.
 
West Chester (17-2-2) advances to the national quarterfinals for the sixth time and will face the East Region champion, College of Saint Rose (20-1-2), on Sunday at Rockwell Field. Saint Rose was a 3-0 winner over Mercy College Friday. The first 300 West Chester University students, with a valid school ID, will get into Sunday's game FREE.
 
So., M Scarlett Walsh (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) scored her second goal of the season five minutes into the contest, finishing off a pass from Kara Parvel (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall). Walsh buried the ball in the far corner past a diving West Virginia Wesleyan goalkeeper, Lauren Duncan.
 
West Chester goalkeeper, Alex Srolis (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) picked up the win to improve to 17-2-2 on the season. She played 56 minutes and registered one save. Reserve Madie Mitchell (Wall Twp., N.J./Wall) came on in relief, after Srolis suffered an injury, and completed the shut out, making one save herself. Duncan made four saves and allowed one goal.
 
The winner of Sunday's quarterfinal advances to the NCAA Division II Fall Festival and the national semifinals in Louisville, Ky., next month. West Chester has advanced to the national semifinals just once in its program's history. The Golden Rams are 1-4 in their previous five trips to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
