Box Score WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester exploded for four goals in the second half en route to a 5-0 win over visiting Pitt-Johnstown at Rockwell Field Tuesday afternoon.
West Chester (4-5-0, 3-3-0 PSAC) evened its conference record as the Golden Rams continue to climb the league standings to secure a playoff spot next month. Pitt-Johnstown (1-10-0, 0-6-0) did not muster a shot on goal in the loss. With most league games slated for tomorrow afternoon, the Golden Rams have temporarily secured fifth place in the league standings. WCU is tied with California (Pa.) with nine points. However, the Rams hold the tie-breaker over the Vulcans by virtue of its 1-0 overtime win earlier in the year.
Miguel Ross (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) scored twice in the first eight minutes of the second half to push a 1-0 advantage for the homestanding Rams to 3-0.
Brett Beaumont (Bensalem, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) then kicked in a loose ball during a scramble right out in front of the net in the 61st minute, and that was followed up two minutes later when
Wyatt Dungan (Ephrata, Pa./Cocalico) converted a bicycle kick from the top of the six-yard box in the 63rd minute to close out the scoring.
Max Adarkwah (Accra, Ghana/Phelps School [Pa.]) scored five mintues into the match on a shot from just outside the 18 that caught the upper right-hand corner of the net.
West Chester outshot Pitt-Johnstown by a considerable 21-2 margin while holding an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. UPJ goalkeeper, Nate Kleya (1-10) made nine saves in the loss.
Matt Palmer (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) (4-5-1) was not called upon to make a save for the Rams.
West Chester will be back in action on Thursday when the Golden Rams travel to Goldey-Beacom College for a non-league tilt that is slated for a 4 p.m. start. The Rams will jump back into league play one week from today when they travel to East Stroudsburg with the women's team.
