Nixon, Mowrey Win Doubles Tournament At ITA Regionals

FULL ITA REGIONAL RESULTS: Championship Brackets, Championship Back Draw, B Brackets, B Back-Draw

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Juniors Julia Mowrey (Bethlehem, Pa. / Notre Dame) and Shannon Nixon (Wyncote, Pa. / Cheltenham) won the doubles B bracket for West Chester women's tennis on Sunday at Day 2 of the ITA Regionals.
 
Mowrey and Nixon began Day 2 in the quarterfinals. They beat a Millersville pair 8-4, and then they beat a Mercyhurst duo 8-2. They were set to face a doubles team from Bluefield State in the final, but the Bluefield team elected not to stay for Day 3.
 
Junior Elaina Rochford (West Chester, Pa. / Henderson) went undefeated with two wins in singles in the B back-draw bracket on Sunday. She blanked a West Liberty player, winning 4-0, 4-0. Then she topped a Millersville opponent 4-0, 4-3(4). It was decided that Rochford would head back with the rest of her teammates since she would have been the only WCU athlete with a match to play on Day 3.
 
Freshman Elaina Lee (Pottstown, Pa. / Owen J. Roberts) advanced to quarterfinals with a comeback 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over a Bluefield opponent, but she was eliminated in the next round, completing her first collegiate tournament with a 2-1 singles record and 1-1 doubles record.
 
West Chester has its first head-to-head match at home on Friday at 2 p.m. against University of the Sciences.
