LOCK HAVEN, PA – West Chester University junior
McKenzie Hemingway (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) female athlete of the week it was announced by that organization Tuesday afternoon.
Hemingway won the prelims in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Thomas Murphy Invitational inside Mangione Pool & Rec Center on the campus of Loyola (Md.) Saturday morning. Her time was good for an NCAA Division II 'B' cut.
The junior's time of 1 minute, 3.72 seconds was faster than 11 Division I swimmers from Loyola and Towson University. It also was the fastest time in the PSAC so far this winter while showing as the third-best time in all of Division II to this point in the year.
Hemingway is the second female athlete of the week picked by the PSAC this season. She joins fifth-year senior
Ann Carozza, who was the athlete of the week in the conference's first week of awards on Oct. 18.
West Chester and Hemingway will be back in action Nov. 17-19 at the Total Performance Mid-Season Invitational at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.
