Four Golden Rams Earn DII Conference Commissioners Association All-Region Honors

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (DIICCA) released its Women's Soccer All-Region teams on Tuesday morning. No. 2 West Chester (20-0-1) who recently punched its ticket back to the NCAA Atlantic Regional Final for the third year in a row and the fourth time in the last five years, landed four players on the All-Region squad, including a trio of First Team selections.

PSAC East Rookie of the Year Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) earned First Team honors as did Eastern Division Defensive Player of the Year Hayley McGee (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) while First Team All-League honoree Kiley Kergides (Rydal, Pa./Germantown Academy) was the third and final Golden Ram to earn First Team honors. PSAC East Player of the Year Kaitlynn Haughey (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) was the final Golden Ram to earn All-Region honors, securing second team honors, marking her second career All-Region award after a tremendous 2022 season.

Entering the Atlantic Regional final on Friday afternoon at St. Rose, Matter is tied for the team lead in scoring with 24 points thanks to eight goals and eight assists on the year. Matter, has four game-winning goals to her credit already this season, while her eight assists is eighth in single-season program history.

Kergides and McGee have been two pieces of a tremendous defense for West Chester this season, holding opponents to a Division II-best 0.29 goals per game and just 8.3 shots per game on the year. Kergides, stepped in to fill a role on the backline, vacated by the graduation of 2021 All-American Micaela Berg and has done a tremendous job, helping West Chester slow some of the most dangerous offensive players in the Atlantic Region throughout the year, including Region Player of the Year Fran Soares Cupertino from West Virginia State. In addition to her defensive contributions, Kergides has also scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner over Bloomsburg in early October before adding a clutch assist in the PSAC Quarterfinal win over East Stroudsburg on November 1st.

For her part, McGee has had a senior season for the record books, playing to a record of 20-0-1 on the year, which is already second in single-season wins with 14 shutouts, which is also the second most in a single season. McGee has authored a goals-against-average of 0.29 on the year to go along with a 0.935 save percentage, both of which rank first in all of DII women's soccer entering the second week of the NCAA Tournament.

Haughey, who was the final Golden Ram to earn All-Region honors on Tuesday morning and the lone repeat selection from a year ago, had another tremendous season in 2022, scoring seven goals and adding six assists for 20 points on the year, which is third best on the team. Haughey has scored a pair of game-winning goals this year and has been a key player with and without the ball for the highly-ranked Golden Rams throughout the season.

Following a win over West Virginia State, who tied with Frostburg State for the second most players on the All-Region team with three each, behind the Golden Rams, West Chester will now shift its attention to a familiar foe in Kutztown as the Golden Rams look for their first Regional Title since the 2017 season. West Chester and Kutztown are scheduled to meet on Friday afternoon at 12 p.m. in Albany on the campus of the College of St. Rose, who earned the No. 1 seed in the East Region, and dispatched its weekend opponents with ease, outscoring them by a combined 8-0 margin to reach the East Region Final.
