KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The West Chester University women's soccer team (7-1-3) made its season debut in the United Soccer Division II Top 25 on Tuesday afternoon in a tie for 24
th with Adelphi (7-2).
West Chester is riding a seven-game unbeaten streak and has won five games during this time, with its only two non-victories being 1-1 draws against fellow top-25 member Bloomsburg and Shepherd, who was also nationally-ranked for much of the season. West Chester does have a win over a nationally-ranked foe already this season as the Golden Rams dismantled then No. 11 Jefferson by a 3-0 final on Rockwell Field in early September. The Rams remain in the top-25, checking in at No. 15 at 9-1-1 with the loss to the Golden Rams remaining their lone loss of the season.
West Chester continued its winning ways last week, defeating Millersville by a 1-0 final at home on Wednesday to exact revenge for a loss at the Marauders in early September before an 8-0 drubbing of Mansfield on the road on Saturday.
Kianna Barber (Browns Mills, N.J./BCIT), a two-time PSAC East Athlete of the Week award winner, remains the Golden Rams leading scorer with six goals and one assist for 13 points, while three-time PSAC Major Award winner and two-time All-American
Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) is close behind with three goals and five assists for 11 points on the year.
Dallas Baptist rose to the top spot in the poll this week at 11-0-0 followed by Grand Valley State (8-1-0), Minnesota State-Mankato (9-0-2), North Georgia (11-0-1), and Cal Poly Pomona (9-1-1) to round out the top five.
West Chester will look to continue its strong run of play on Saturday when Shippensburg visits Rockwell Field for a 12 p.m. start as the second half of PSAC East play continues. West Chester will end October with three marquee matchups, including two next week against Kutztown (10/22 at 7 P.M.), home against Bloomsburg (10/25 at 2:30 P.M.), and at Shepherd (10/29 at 1 P.M.).
