Women's Swimming & Diving Heads to Lehigh for Friday meet

WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester University's Women's Swimming & Diving squad is set to match up against Division I Lehigh University Friday at 5:00 p.m. at Jacobs Pool (Taylor Gym) in Bethlehem, Pa.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN RAMS
The Golden Rams (1-1) are coming off a loss to New York University 184-53. West Chester's 200-yard freestyle relay was the lone winner on Saturday while Bella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) was the only runner-up in leading the Golden Rams' women inside Palladium Athletic Facility. West Chester's winning 200 free relay team consisted of Sam Heiland (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East)Sam Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro)Greta Saville (Mordialloc, Australia) and Anna Evans (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn). They touched the wall in 1 minute, 40.65 seconds. Isabella Kil was second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.96, which was about one second behind NYU's winner, Sammy Wong.
 
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS
Lehigh women's swimming and diving dove into the season last Saturday afternoon against Loyola (Md,) and American. The Mountain Hawks beat American 176-122, but fell to Loyola, 190-110. Senior Mairin Ludwig picked up right where she left off last year with a trio of top two individual finishes. She started off her day winning the 200-yard freestyle, swimming it in 1 minute, 52.22 seconds. Ludwig followed that up in the 500 free where she won the event with a time of 5:02.60. In the 200 individual medley, she was a mere one-hundredth of a second off of her third win of the day, but 2:06.92 only managed her second place. Senior Caitlin Deitch had a pair of podium finishes in the butterfly events. Deitch placed second in the 200 fly, finishing in 2:06.15, and swam 57.52 to place third over 100 fly. Junior Katie Whitaker had herself a good day in the diving events. She won the three-meter dive, scoring 242.10 points. In the one-meter event, she scored 215.15 points, placing fourth.
 
THE WEST CHESTER-LEHIGH SERIES
West Chester's women hold a slim 11-10 lead in the overall series with Lehigh dating back to 2003. Most recently, the Mountain Hawks have won five of the last six meetings with the Golden Rams to draw within one in the overall series ledger. Lehigh brings a personal two-year winning streak against West Chester into Friday's non-conference tilt.

The Golden Rams will hit the road again on Friday October 24 to take on Bloomsburg University at 5 p.m.
