Last Time Out

West Chester picked up its third win in four games and ran its unbeaten streak to four in a row on Monday with a 2-1 non-league win over Holy Family. After a scoreless first half, West Chester scored twice in three minutes early in the second half as Ryan Rauber (Homer, N.Y./Tully Jr-Sr) scored his first career goal in the 55th minute before Mason Clatterbuck (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) picked up his first goal of the year in the 58th minute to give the hosts a 2-0 lead. Holy Family cut the deficit in half in the 67th minute, capitalizing on four consecutive corners (four of its five second-half corners) as Jackson Kiss scored off an assist from Hugo Gutierrez. This was as close as the Tigers could come to coming all the way back, however, as West Chester held on for the 2-1 victory in its non-league finale.

Flock Talk

Maksym Komperda (Whitehall, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and Owen Slack (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) are tied for the team lead in scoring with 11 points each. Komperda has a team-best five goals and one assist, while Slack has three goals and five assists, which is tied with Luke Newman (Mission Viejo, Cal./Santa Margarita Catholic) for first on the team in assists. Newman also has two goals for nine points, while Peter Tichy (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) has two goals and three assists for seven points.

In goal, Jaden Howard (Townsend, Del./Middletown) got the starting nod again yesterday afternoon and played the first 32 minutes, making one save before giving way to Caleb Addalia (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial), who earned his first win with two saves in the 31 minutes of work. Alexi Amanatidis (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./The Shipley School), the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week last week, has been excellent for West Chester in recent weeks, going 3-1-2 with a 0.67 goals-against average and two shutouts, helping pull West Chester back into the PSAC Tournament conversation down the stretch of the regular season.

What We Control

West Chester heads into Thursday in control of its own destiny as the team needs only a win to qualify for the PSAC Tournament. With a victory over the Raiders, West Chester will punch its ticket to the PSAC Quarterfinals next week, but will have to wait until Thursday night to learn if this Quarterfinal will be home or away. With an ESU loss to Millersville, West Chester would earn the second seed and host the third seed from the PSAC West. Conversely, if ESU wins on Thursday night, West Chester would likely finish as the third seed and find itself shipped off to the PSAC West.

If West Chester earns a draw, the Golden Rams will have to scoreboard watch and hope for a bit of help to earn their way into the PSAC Tournament.

As He Goes

Slack, who is a Senior captain and one of two captains for West Chester this season (junior defender Ian Alicea is the other Golden Ram to wear the captain's arm band in 2025), has three goals and five assists for a team-best 11 points on the year. Slack scoring is a good sign for West Chester, as the team is 5-0-2 when he scores at least one point so far this season. This includes the vital win over Bloomsburg on 10/25 and a draw at Millersville on 10/29.

Series History

West Chester holds a 32-11-7 lead in the all-time series against Shippensburg after splitting the season series each of the last two seasons and playing to a 1-1 draw earlier this season. Shippensburg stunned West Chester on Rockwell Field back in 2023 for its first road win over the Golden Rams since 2010. West Chester is 30-7-6 against the Raiders in regular-season league matches.
