West Chester Women Claim First at the Pidgeon Memorial

JOHN A. PIDGEON MEMORIAL MEET RESULTS

NEWVILLE, PA. – West Chester swimmers won five of the eights Saturday afternoon en route to a first-place finish at the John A. Pidgeon Memorial Invitational hosted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania inside Big Spring High School.
 
West Chester's Michalina Jasinska (Warsaw, Poland) won the 100-yard backstroke and led off both relays that posted first-place showings as the Golden Rams accrued 450.5 points to outdistance IUP, which had 256. Kutztown was third with 237 points while Bloomsburg finished fourth with 229.5. Lock Haven placed fifth with 134 points and Pitt-Johnstown was sixth with 11 points.
 
Jasinska had something to do with three of West Chester's five wins. She posted a time of 58.77 seconds in the 100 back. Greta Saville (Mordialloc, Australia) won the 500 freestyle in 5 minutes, 11.01 seconds while also playing a role on the 400 free relay team that won. Samantha Kil (Enola, Pa./ East Pennsboro) won the 200 butterfly in 2:15.6 while also swimming a leg of the 400 medley relay. Her older sister, Isabella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) was second in the 100 breaststroke helping West Chester take second, fourth and fifth in that event.
 
The Golden Rams took advantage of their chance on Saturday to see where they match up against other Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams, and they passed with flying colors.
 
"They are training at a high level right now," West Chester head coach Steve Mazurek said. "Today was an opportunity to get back into racing shape and to figure out where we are. We still have work to do. But, I feel good about this team. We will suit up and get after it against UPenn on Friday."
 
West Chester will return to Graham Natatorium next Friday evening for a 5 p.m. dual meet against Division I foe, University of Pennsylvania. That meet will serve as Senior Night for the Golden Rams' swimmers and divers.
