West Chester's women's program has won each of the last four conference titles and 18 of the last 19 overall with the lone outlier being the 2020-21 championship that the Golden Rams skipped due to the COVID-19 pandemic when the school shut down all intercollegiate competitions for its athletic programs.
The distance events will once again favor the Golden Rams while the 200-yard versions of the specialist events will also have a distinct purple & gold color to them. West Chester has four swimmers projected to be in the 'A' final of the 200 individual medley and three in the finals of the 400 IM, 200 breaststroke, 200 free and 1000 free.
A pair of freshmen
Greta Saville (Mordialloc, Australia), and
Margaret Getty (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley), along with sophomore
Ditta Kowalik (State College, Pa./State College Area), should score points in the distance events. Senior tri-captain
Bella Kil (Enola, PA East Pennsboro) and junior tri-captain
Anna Evans (Lansdale, PA North Penn) provide depth in the IM and relays. Evans is the only Golden Rams female swimmer who has won a PSAC title at a previous conference meet. She won the 200 IM in 2024.
Senior
Lenya Ryan (Wilmington, DEL Mt. Pleasant) is expected to have a breakout championship event. She has coming off her best regular season this past winter and should score significant points in the IM and the breaststroke. Ryan was runner-up in the 200 breast in each of the last two years.
West Chester will take 15 swimmers to the conference meet and the relays will need to perform well for the Golden Rams to stay on top of the conference. However, Coach
Steve Mazurek is confident in this group.
"This is the most fun I have had coaching," Mazurek revealed. "I've learned a lot from this group. They've shared together. They are team-oriented, and our three captains (Kil, Evans and sophomore
Sam Heiland) have provided tremendous leadership for such a young team."
The Golden Rams still go into the meet as a favorite to take the team title, and the road to the championship should look similar than in years past with points in the distance and specialist strokes. However, this crown may prove to be a bit more challenging.
