Hall of Fame
Two words best describe Valerie Walchak's career, professional and committed. In almost thirty years of teaching at Haverford High School, Valerie has demonstrated to all what a true professional she is. An honors student at West Chester University, Valerie was a member of the field hockey, swimming, and lacrosse teams. As a coach, official, and even as an athletic administrator, Val continues to lead by example. After a combined twenty years of coaching, seventeen years of officiating, Val now serves as the Women's Athletic Director at Haverford. Val received her Master of Education Degree from West Chester in 1974.
Success has been a staple during Val's career as she has coached teams to district and league championships in swimming and lacrosse. She has also demonstrated excellence in coaching basketball and gymnastics. One of Val's greatest contributions to athletics is her significant promotion and development of schoolgirl lacrosse on the national and international level. Valerie founded the first schoolgirl lacrosse association in this country. Now the Pennsylvania Schoolgirls's Lacrosse Association serves as the model for the rest of the country. Through Val's leadership as President, the Association has developed a Senior All Star Game, the Schoolgirl All American Committee, and the Schoolgirl Tournament- a huge event in the USWLA National Tournament. Because of her vision and ability to carry it out, the USWLA has named the Schoolgirl Championship Trophy in her honor.
Valerie also serves as the organizational chairperson for the U19 Women Lacrosse World cup- to be held at haverford College this August. She is an Executive Committee member of the Rams Athletic Association, an Eceutive Board member of the USWLA, and an active participant in her community and church.
